Visa-Free Travel Guide

Where a Nigeria Passport Can Go Visa-Free

Nigeria's passport gives visa-free ECOWAS access across West Africa, but outside the region most destinations still need a visa. These are the real exceptions — genuine visa-free, visa-on-arrival, ETA and e-Visa destinations beyond Africa where a Nigerian passport holder can travel without going through a full embassy visa application.

Before you book: visa policies change often and can depend on your specific passport, purpose of travel and length of stay. Always confirm on the destination's official source link below — shown next to every entry — before purchasing tickets.

Caribbean

🇧🇧

Barbados

Up to 6 months

Visa-Free

What you still need before you travel:

  • Your passport must stay valid for the entire length of your trip — Barbados doesn't demand extra months beyond that, but airlines often refuse boarding if it's close to expiry, so renew first if you're under 6 months.
  • A return or onward ticket showing you'll leave before your permitted stay ends — immigration officers can ask to see this on arrival, and a one-way ticket alone may get you refused entry.
  • Everyone — including visa-free visitors — must complete the free online Barbados Immigration & Customs (ED) Card at travelform.gov.bb. Submit it no earlier than 72 hours before your flight lands; you'll get a QR code by email that you show alongside your passport at the airport, so save it to your phone or print it.

No visa application needed — just the pre-arrival online form, which every traveller (including visa-free visitors) must complete.

🇩🇲

Dominica

Up to 6 months

Visa-Free

What you still need before you travel:

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry.
  • A valid return ticket confirming you'll leave Dominica — bona fide tourists without one risk being refused entry at the immigration desk.
  • Proof you can support yourself financially for the trip (bank statement or cash) and a local address — a hotel booking, Airbnb confirmation or host's address is enough.
  • Complete Dominica's online Embarkation/Disembarkation (ED) Card at edcard.dominica.gov.dm within 3 days of travel — this system replaced paper landing cards in October 2024. After submitting, you'll receive a confirmation and QR code by email; save it to your phone or print it, since you must present it with your passport to Immigration and Customs on arrival.

Dominica introduced an online landing-card system in 2024 — you'll get a QR code to show alongside your passport on arrival.

🇰🇳

Saint Kitts and Nevis

Up to 90 days

Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)

What you still need before you travel:

  • Apply for the Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) online at knatravelform.kn before you fly — the form takes about 5 minutes and can be submitted up to 90 days ahead. Every traveller needs this now, including infants and children, so don't assume visa-free means automatic entry.
  • Pay the eTA service charge — US$17 per person (it was a discounted US$8.50 until 1 September 2025, so make sure you're not quoted the old rate).
  • Passport valid for your intended stay and a confirmed return or onward ticket.
  • The eTA is single-entry and valid for 90 days or until your passport expires, whichever comes first — plan a fresh application if you're making more than one trip.

Since May 2025, Nigerians need this eTA before travel — it is not a full visa, but it is not automatic entry either. Apply at least a day or two ahead.

🇦🇬

Antigua and Barbuda

Up to 1 month

e-Visa (apply online, no embassy visit)

What you still need before you travel:

  • Apply for the eVisa online at evisa.immigration.gov.ag — you'll upload your passport bio page, travel itinerary and supporting documents; there is no in-person embassy visit anywhere in the process.
  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date.
  • Proof of onward or return travel — a confirmed flight itinerary out of Antigua and Barbuda.
  • Standard eVisa applications are reviewed within 5 working days, so submit at least a week before you fly to leave room for any follow-up requests.
  • For document questions, the Department of Immigration can be reached at [email protected] or +1 (268) 481-4200 (Mon–Fri, 8am–4pm Atlantic Time).

There is no Antigua and Barbuda embassy in Nigeria, so the eVisa is the only route — apply well before your trip.

🇹🇹

Trinidad and Tobago

Up to 1 month

e-Visa (apply online, no embassy visit)

What you still need before you travel:

  • Apply for the eVisa online at evisa.ttservices.online — the Ministry of National Security moved fully to this online system in April 2024, so there is no paper alternative or embassy visit required.
  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date.
  • The eVisa allows a maximum stay of 1 month — if you need longer, you must apply for an extension with the Immigration Division after you arrive, not before.
  • For questions on your application, contact the Immigration Division directly at [email protected].
🇧🇸

Bahamas

Up to 90 days (single-entry)

e-Visa (apply online, no embassy visit)

What you still need before you travel:

  • Apply for the eVisa (Electronic Entry Visa) online at evisa.mofa.gov.bs — the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' application form runs to around 39 questions, so set aside real time and have your documents scanned and ready before you start.
  • Passport valid for more than 6 months from your travel date.
  • Three "hard" documents are required as uploads: a medical certificate, your round-trip flight ticket, and proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host address).
  • Additional supporting documents may be requested: recent bank/financial statements, copies of any previous visas, and birth certificates for any children travelling with you.
  • Processing takes 7–10 business days, not counting the day you submit — apply at least two weeks ahead of travel.
  • Choose single-entry (90 days) or a 12-month multiple-entry option if you expect to visit more than once.
  • On arrival, present both your passport and your approved Electronic Entry Visa (EEV) to the immigration officer.
  • For support, contact the eVisa office at [email protected] or +1 (242) 397-9300.

A 12-month multiple-entry option also exists if you plan to visit more than once.

Americas

🇨🇴

Colombia

Up to 90 days

e-Visa (apply online, no embassy visit)

What you still need before you travel:

  • Apply for the eVisa online through Colombia's Cancillería (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) portal — enter your name, nationality and passport details, and complete the form within about 30 minutes, since the session can time out.
  • Valid passport and scanned copies of relevant pages, including any previous Colombian visas or entry stamps you've had.
  • Two separate payments are required: an initial application fee, and a second fee once your visa is approved.
  • Complete the Check-Mig form online within the 72 hours before your flight (and no later than 1 hour before departure) — this is mandatory for every traveller entering Colombia, not just those who needed a visa.

Europe

🇦🇱

Albania

Up to 90 days

e-Visa (apply online, no embassy visit)

What you still need before you travel:

  • Apply for the e-Tourist Visa online at e-visa.al — the whole process is digital, but processing takes 10–15 business days, so apply well ahead of your trip.
  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the date you plan to leave Albania.
  • A confirmed hotel booking, or a notarised invitation letter from an Albanian resident, plus a round-trip flight ticket showing your arrival and departure dates.
  • Recent bank statements (last 12 months) showing at least €50 per day of your planned stay.
  • A passport-style colour photo on a white background.
  • Proof of valid travel health insurance — the policy must explicitly cover Albania (or say "Worldwide") and include medical emergency and repatriation costs.
  • Once approved, print the e-Visa PDF — border control frequently rejects a digital copy shown on a phone.

This is the only EU/Schengen-adjacent destination on this list that doesn't require a full Schengen visa application.

Asia

🇲🇾

Malaysia

Up to Set per approval (single-entry)

e-Visa (apply online, no embassy visit)

What you still need before you travel:

  • Apply for the Malaysia Visit eVisa online at malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my — no embassy visit needed; 24/7 live chat support is available on the portal if you get stuck.
  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay.
  • Proof of onward or departure travel from Malaysia.
  • Carry your WHO Yellow Card (international vaccination certificate) — Malaysian immigration can specifically ask Nigerian travellers to show proof of yellow fever vaccination, since Nigeria is a yellow-fever-risk country.
  • A single-entry visa is standard; you must request a multiple-entry visa specifically if you need one.
🇵🇭

Philippines

Up to 59 days (single-entry visa validity; 30-day stay per entry)

e-Visa (apply online, no embassy visit)

What you still need before you travel:

  • Apply online at the official evisa.gov.ph portal — Nigeria is one of only a handful of countries eligible for this e-Visa (alongside Austria, France, Greece, Kenya, the Netherlands and the UAE), so it isn't open to every nationality.
  • Upload a passport-sized photo, your round-trip flight ticket, proof of accommodation, and financial proof such as a bank statement or payslip.
  • Register for a free eTravel QR code before you enter the Philippines — this is required of every international traveller, separate from the visa itself.
  • The 9(a) Temporary Visitor e-Visa allows single-entry stays of up to 30 days per visit; it cannot be converted into another visa type or extended once you're in the country, so plan your dates carefully.

Nigeria is one of a small number of countries eligible for this e-Visa — it isn't open to every nationality.

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date.
  • A return or onward flight ticket.
  • Proof of accommodation — your resort, guesthouse or hotel booking confirmation.
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for your stay, roughly $100 per day.
  • Complete the IMUGA Traveller Declaration online at imuga.immigration.gov.mv within 96 hours before your flight — this is mandatory for every visitor and generates the QR code immigration scans on arrival.

  • A return or onward ticket, or other proof you can fund your own departure.

Only available at Dili International Airport or Dili Sea Port — not at land borders.

Middle East

🇱🇧

Lebanon

Visa on Arrival

  • A local phone number and address in Lebanon where you can be reached — have a hotel name/number ready if you don't have a personal contact.
  • Travel insurance with at least €30,000 of medical coverage.
  • This visa on arrival is granted free of charge at Rafik Hariri International Airport (Beirut) and other official border points — no advance online application exists.

Nigeria is explicitly named by Lebanon's General Security as eligible for this visa-on-arrival — it is granted free of charge at the airport.

🇮🇷

Iran

Up to 30 days

Visa on Arrival

What you still need before you travel:

  • Apply online at evisa.mfa.ir at least 2 days before you travel — despite the name, this "visa on arrival" requires advance online registration, not just a walk-up counter.
  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from your entry date.
  • You must arrive by air — this route is not available at Iran's land borders.
  • Print the "Grant Notice" email you receive after approval and present it at the Visa-on-Arrival counter at the airport.
  • Pay the visa stamp fee, around €60, in cash in euros at the airport counter — have the exact currency ready, as card payment isn't reliable.

The official portal can be slow to load — that's a known issue with the system, not a sign the service is unavailable.

Confirm which schedule applies to Nigerian passport holders with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Immigration ([email protected]) before you book, since the difference affects how long you can stay.

Kiribati's exemption schedule has different tiers by nationality — confirm your exact allowance on the official portal before booking.
